High in the Andes last year, we set out from Huaraz and Cusco to trek among the mountains for several weeks, often climbing above 5,000 meters. We found ourselves in the heart of the cordillera, surrounded by towering peaks. Sleeping in tents we listened to the silence of the high altitude, broken only by the wind. Each day brought new challenges, as we crossed high passes and remote valleys, far from the modern world. We hiked past giants like Huascarán.
